Philippa joined our Participation team in 2017 and supports Jo in her work engaging with disabled young people and their families. She co-facilitates the FLARE group of young people, as well as supporting a range of activities to encourage decision-makers to listen to young people, take them seriously and make positive change.
Before joining CDC, she co-ordinated and supported a group of young people with disabilities to act as peer researchers, influencing local authority decisions by finding and sharing the views of other young people. She has also worked on children’s rights at the international level, supporting a large scale capacity development project across East Africa and Eastern Europe. Her interest in disabled children’s rights has come from her work developing child-centred learning methods in a variety of formal and informal education settings, both in the UK and further afield, which showed her how often children with disabilities are underestimated and what they can achieve when they are supported in the right way.
