Putting Children First

In this paper the Government has set out it's reform programme for children's social care over the the next 5 years.

The paper proposes changes in a number of key areas:

  1. People and Leadership:
    Developing the socal work profession through improved training and continous professional development. The paper also proposes a new regulatory body for social work.
  2. Practice and Systems:
    Supporting greater innovation and removing barriers to effective practice. It also talks about making better use of data too understand and respond to new and emerging threats.
  3. Governance and Accountability:
    Proposal for regional commissioning of residential care placements and reviewing the role of local authorities. The paper also suggests using joing targeted inspections and improved multi-agency work to drive improvement.
