Residential care in England: Government response

Written by Department for EducationDate 20 Dec 2016

In July 2016, Sir Martin Narey published a report reviewing children’s residential care in England. The government have now produced their own response to the report.

Sir Martin’s report 'Residential Care in England' talks about how to secure best value for money in commissioning residential care and looks at the differences between local authority, private and voluntary sector run homes. The report also looks at residential care as a route to fostering and the lack of market management in the way provision meets need.

The government have now published a response to the report, addressing key areas including governance, practice and systems and leadership. The response also sets out how they are starting to work on some of Sir Martin's key recommendations.
