This briefing provides information about school admissions arrangements. It is written for parents of disabled children and young people; parents of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and professionals advising parents including those in Information, Advice and Support Services (IASS).
This briefing provides a summary of the arrangements and focuses on issues that are particularly relevant to the admission of disabled children and children with SEN. The relevant statutory Codes: the School Admissions Code and the SEN and disability Code of Practice, set out the requirements in detail. The Equality Act covers admissions and so, in the first section, we look at the requirements of the Equality Act in relation to the admission of disabled children and young people.
