The Government announced a continued investment in short breaks and provided over £800 million between the 2011 and 2015 as part of the Early Intervention Grant.

Included in this guidance resource an overview of the legal position in relation to the Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations 2011 and examples of good practice which have been developed over the period 2008 to 2011. This is non-statutory guidance from the Department for Education and is intended to help local authorities understand how to fulfil their duties under the Children Act 1989 and the Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations 2011.
