BasicNeeds is an international Non-Governmental Organisation (iNGO) that works to bring about a lasting change in the lives of mentally ill people around the world.
Since their foundation in 2000, their programmes have improved the lives of over 650,000 people living with mental illness and/or epilepsy, their carers and families, and have led the way in developing comprehensive field based research and national and global advocacy.
At the heart of their work is consultation with mentally ill people and the drive to work with them to help them solve their problems.
As the largest iNGO working in this space, they have developed a model of intervention that is effective, locally owned, can be replicated and is transferable. Predominantly focused on low and middle income countries, BasicNeeds work right across the system: with individuals and communities, local and national governments, and international organisations.
Basic Needs are part of CBM, the overseas disability charity.
