CDC is pleased to have been awarded funding to adapt and deliver the Expert Parent Programme to parent carers who access or are on waiting lists for Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
The programme is being funded by the Health Education England Innovation Fund and will empower parents and equip them with tools to advocate on their child’s behalf and achieve better outcomes when navigating CAMHS.
The Expert Parent Programme is unique in that it maps out the current health system specifically to the needs of children and young people with disabilities. Through a combination of face-to-face sessions, online modules and web-based resources, the programme enables parent carers to better understand the health system and provides them with practical tools on how to access it to ensure the best outcomes for their children and young people.By empowering parents to advocate on behalf of their children, the programme has allowed participants to have more effective and efficient interactions with health practitioners saving time and ensuring an enhanced experience for both family and service.
I definitely feel more confident, the workshop was very empowering and I’ve made good use of the tools I took away.
