New government drive to tackle barriers faced by disabled people omits children and young people

The Prime Minister launched yesterday new measures that aim to tackle the barriers faced by disabled people, in the workplace, at home and in the community. The reforms include higher accessibility standards for new housing, an overhaul of statutory sick pay and greater workplace support.

Response from the Director of the Council for Disabled Children, Dame Christine Lenehan:

We regret this missed opportunity to address the needs of children and young people. We are disappointed that a strategy that looks at firm foundations does not look at the specific needs of children and young people.
