Cathy is a Specialist Paediatric and TYA Therapeutic Radiographer who has been working in University College London Hospital for the last 7 years. Working in a lead role Cathy oversees the patient pathways for both radiotherapy and proton beam therapy, which has led to extensive experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team. Despite Cathy’s primary professional responsibilities being of technical nature from a treatment delivery perspective, she works very closely with Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists and Occupational Therapists to name a few, developing a rounded understanding to successfully implement each of the AHP roles, within a novice cancer care setting for children and young people.
Due to involvement is various strategy and development meetings for service expansion, Cathy has assisted it outlining resource and capacity needs internally within the Trust but also considering external referring centres and community teams, to ensure efficacy and efficiency for the clinical benefit of the patient. Alongside her professional responsibilities Cathy has completed her MSc in Enhanced Radiotherapy and Oncology with her thesis focussed on the development of Patient Reported Outcome Measures for younger patients undergoing radiotherapy and PBT. Cathy is passionate about the impact that interprofessional working can have on improving patient experience, individualised care and treatment outcomes, and hopes to continue her professional development in a role of senior leadership to support AHPs in innovation and enabling change through collaborative working.
