How it works
Little Rainbows is a parent-led charity supporting autistic and special educational needs (SEN) children and their families. Run entirely by parents of children with additional needs, we understand the challenges our families face — and we’re here to make sure no one faces them alone.
We offer sensory therapy group sessions, inclusive play opportunities, and community events designed to reduce isolation, support emotional and sensory needs, and create meaningful connections. We also provide trusted advice and advocacy through our trained volunteers, helping families navigate the often overwhelming world of SEN support.
At Little Rainbows, we believe every child deserves to shine — and we’re building a community where families feel supported, empowered, and understood.
What has been achieved?
Since launching Little Rainbows, we’ve grown into a lifeline for over 1,700 families of autistic and SEN children. We provide weekly sensory therapy sessions led by qualified occupational therapists, supporting up to 40 children who can’t access this help through the NHS.
We’ve created safe, inclusive play sessions at venues that are usually overwhelming — giving children the chance to enjoy, explore, and connect at their own pace and build meaningful friendships with our autistic & SEN children. .
We’ve helped families feel heard and empowered through our volunteer-led advice service, offering trusted guidance on education, EHCPs, and more.
And perhaps most importantly, we’ve built a community where families feel supported, friendships are formed, and children are celebrated just as they are.
Next steps
We’ve come so far — but there’s so much more we want to do for our families.
1. Expanding Our Sensory Therapy Sessions:
With demand higher than ever and a waiting list nearing 100 children, we’re working hard to increase capacity so more families can access the life-changing support of our weekly sensory therapy groups.
2. Relaunching The SEN Den:
We’re bringing back our stay-and-play sessions in a brand new venue, giving autistic and SEN children a calm, inclusive space to play, connect, and grow — while parents build friendships and support networks.
3. Training More Volunteers in SEN Law:
We’re committed to empowering families. That’s why we’re investing in legal training for our volunteers, so they can continue to guide parents through the complex world of SEND education and support.
4. Strengthening Our Community:
We’ll keep creating opportunities for families to meet, children to shine, and parents to feel truly supported — because no one should go through this journey alone.
