Southampton Information, Advice and Support (IAS) Service.
Description of service
The Southampton Information Advice and Support (IAS) Service provides impartial, factual information and practical support for children/young people and their parents to navigate through the system of special educational needs and disability (SEND). This includes, but is not exclusive to:
- Support in meetings in relation to your child/young person’s SEND
- Support to understand and complete forms/assessment contributions
- Support if your child/young person with SEND has been excluded from school
- Information, advice and support in relation to Education, Health and Care Assessments and Plans (and existing Statements of SEN) Signposting to other local and national support services
All staff have had relevant training in: SEND Code of Practice 2014, Equality Act 2010, Exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England. The main aim of the IAS Service is to empower children and young people with disabilities and their parents/carers to make informed choices about their/their children’s education. We also have a team of Independent Supporters who can provide specific advice to children/young people and their parents about Education Health and Care Plans.
