How it works
The Dyscalculia Network CIC is a not-for-profit community interest company, run by volunteers to support and advocate for people with dyscalculia and maths learning difficulties.
Our work is spread across four areas: educational support, campaigning and raising awareness of Dyscalculia and Maths Difficulties, providing the only UK based specialist maths assessor and tutor postcode finder and promoting inclusion of Dyscalculia in the workplace.
We offer Dyscalculia and maths learning difficulty training across the UK to schools and other educational establishments, workplaces and community services.
We work with adults with Dyscalculia to amplify their voices and raise awareness of this under researched yet widespread form of Neurodivergence.
What has been achieved?
We have set up and run two annual awareness days, full of events and speakers.
- Maths Anxiety Day (November 10)
- Dyscalculia Day (March 3rd)
We have co-hosted a two-day event at the NEC ‘The Dyscalculia and Dyslexia Show (2024)’, where we provided speakers and breakout rooms for parents, individuals and educators to learn more about the theory and lived experience of dyscalculia, which included tips of how to help in the classroom and at home.
We have regular free monthly online clinics where people can ask questions and receive support from the Founders.
We have reached out into all UK countries and we are exhibiting at National shows in Scotland, Wales and across England. We have partnered with Ulster University and in 2025 will co-host the first education event focused purely on Maths Difficulties in NI.
Next steps
We will continue to raise awareness across not just the UK but across the world and have been invited to speak at most of the Educational events.
We plan to publish a book focusing on
- Assessment for Maths and Dyscalculia, to help formulate a teaching intervention plan. This will be called the MDA and will be published in summer of 2025 by Jessica Kingsley.
- A Handbook: Teaching guide to support educators of Individuals with Dyscalculia and Maths Difficulties.
We want to be more involved in lobbying of decision makers to make them aware of this ‘poor-relation’ of special educational needs and the impact this has on the economy and wider public. We have been asked by Education Scotland to help and advise on the current maths curriculum review.
