Regional Support Offer - Training on Social Care for Disabled Children and Young People

Our regional support offer includes a full day training session consisting of core and optional modules, and a half day bespoke session on emerging priorities and tricky issues. The sessions are hosted by the SEND Regional Networks and will be facilitated by the Council for Disabled Children.

These sessions are for social workers (children’s and adults’ services), social care practitioners, practice managers and team managers, strategic SEN and social care managers. 

Full Day Session - Aims

The aim of this workshop is to provide social care professionals with an opportunity focus on a range practical areas identified by regional leads as a priority, including:

Core Modules:

• The Legal framework for SEND and social care
• The role of social care in EHC needs assessment and planning
• Good quality social care advice and information

Optional Modules:

• Role of the designated social care officer (DSCO)
• Information sharing and consent
• Joint commissioning
• The local offer
• Outcomes and aspirations
• Mental Capacity and the Mental Capacity Amendment Act 2019

Half Day Session - Aims

CDC is also offering a half day workshop for each region. This workshop will be a bespoke session which focuses on emerging social care priorities and tricky issues. This could include: 

• Aligning social care assessments and plans (e.g. Early Help, Child in Need, Child Protection, LAC)
• Developing social care and SEND pathways
• The role of social care – practical approaches
• Developing a regional social care network
• Other emerging regional social care priorities

CDC’s support includes access to resources and materials for practitioners for the training sessions.

Social care and the SEND Reforms induction e-learning module – to be completed prior to attending event

In addition to these sessions, CDC has an e-learning module designed to be an induction to the SEND reforms affecting social care which is available to access via the CDC website. The interactive e-learning module  includes:

• The legal Framework
  • Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014
  • Children Act 1989
  • Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970
  • Care Act 2014
  • Mental Capacity Act 2005
• The EHC needs assessment and planning process
• Identifying social care needs as part of the EHC needs assessment and planning process
• The role of Social Work and Early Help practitioners in implementing the SEND reforms
