disAbility Cornwall & Isles of Scilly

We are a values based, user-led charitable company with a mission to represent, include, support and empower people living with a long term health condition or disability, their families and carers in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly. We also support community organisations and businesses to develop more inclusive approaches to meeting the needs of their clients and customers.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has a higher than average proportion of people whose day-to-day lives are limited by a long term health condition or disability, equating to 114,023 or 21.33% of the population, much higher than the UK average.

All our services, support and activities are delivered through our RISE approach.

  • Represent: We raise awareness of the lived experience of people to help overcome discriminatory attitudes and practices through mainstream and social media, focus groups and partnership working
  • Include: Through our membership, services, events, initiatives, consultations and our values-based working culture, we facilitate a positive, inclusive community of interest
  • Support: We deliver professional, accessible information and advice to ensure people achieve and maintain economic and social well-being
  • Empower: Our rights-based ethos, peer support and the provision of self-help information resources, tools and guides, build confidence, capability and resilience.

We have a service called the ‘Moment Makers’ was developed to offer young people with learning disabilities, between the ages of 18 to 30 years, the opportunity to volunteer at Memory Cafes around Cornwall.

Our vision is a fully inclusive and equitable society, with equality of opportunity for all. We believe that working positively and proactively with our membership and service providers in all sectors, we will increase the economic and social well-being of all citizens in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
