Unique Ways

Unique Ways provides support and information services, to families of disabled children and young people between the ages of 0-25. Our key aim is supporting positive change and improving their quality of life. We use the term disabled child/young person to include all children/young people with any additional needs including physical disabilities, learning disabilities and/or ongoing health conditions.

Our approach is fundamentally underpinned by the social model of disability. We therefore don’t restrict our services based on any medical diagnosis or scientifically defined eligibility criteria. In essence, Unique Ways exists for any family that feels they need our support. This includes families who have not yet received a diagnosis right through to families with children who have complex health needs and/or disabilities.

The organisation is led by parents and carers of disabled children and young people, and currently has over 1100 parent carer members. Our constitution stipulates 75% of the Board of Trustees must be made up from parent carers. In order to ensure their interest and voice are represented, we facilitate the Family Voice Calderdale parent carer forum.
