YASS! is an organisation in Barnet run entirely by volunteer parents and carers.
YASS! began in 2000 when three parent carers wanted to improve services for our children diagnosed with Autism.
Our Aim was, as is now, to:
- Provide activities and inform of others' activities. This includes meetings, training, and Conferences and Events.
- Provide Independent Family support, aiming to help parent/family carers understand the 'system' and be empowered to represent themselves.
- Provide very regular 'community' information thought to be useful and working with and signposting to other organisations.
- Lobby for better services in many ways.
Now our children are becoming adults we have introduced YAASS! (Youth, Adults Autistic Spectrum Socialising!) to enable a smooth transition from Children's to Adult's Services and beyond. YASS! distributes regular Email Newsletters and bulletins approximately 12 – 15 times a year.
YASS! runs a Youth Group to build on all involved with independence skills.
From 2008 we were asked to support families affected by all disabilities / conditions and this comes under the name of pp4danBarnet (Parent - Carer Participation for disabilities and additional needs in Barnet).
