Barnardo’s transforms the lives of the most vulnerable children across the UK. Barnardo's believe we can bring out the very best in every child whether the issue is child poverty, sexual exploitation, disability or domestic violence.
They run 800 projects across the UK and 74 of these focus specifically on supporting disabled children, young people and their families. These include short break services, play and leisure activities, support with employment and life skills, support to participate and speak out, provision of information, education provision and long term care through fostering and adoption for disabled children who are unable to remain with their birth families.
Through its services, Barnardo's is in contact with around 14,000 disabled children and young people every year - just over half of this number accessing their mainstream provision such as Children's Centres and Early Years Services.
Barnardo's Policy, Research and Media Unit produces campaign reports and briefing papers to influence decision makers that provide evidence of what works to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families. Barnardo's are the Government's Strategic Partner for Children in Families.
