Family Fund

Family Fund provides grants for families raising disabled or seriously ill children or young people.

Family Fund helps families with disabled children and young people aged 17 and under to have choices and the opportunity to enjoy ordinary lives by give grants for things that make life easier and more enjoyable for the disabled child, young person and their family.

The Family Fund provides grants for a wide range of items, such as washing machines, sensory toys, family breaks, bedding, tablets, furniture, outdoor play equipment, clothing and computers. It can be a struggle financially, emotionally and physically for families raising a disabled or seriously ill child, and these grants help break down many of the barriers families face, improving their quality of life and easing the additional daily pressures.

Today, the Family Fund are funded by the four UK governments, private donations and income they generate through the work of their trading arm, Family Fund Trading. Over the 40+ years of their existence, they have helped with over a million grants for families.

Family Fund helped 2,583 families with urgent help, where grant awards are given within 48 hours of their application through their urgent referrer network. Our Take a Break scheme, which provides grants for short breaks to disabled children and young people and their families in Scotland, helped 1,616 families.

Family Fund also provided 350 families with information and advice to claim their full allowance of the disability element of tax credits, and provided grants to 690 siblings of disabled children through our Siblings Matter Too grant programme.

Family Fund provided support to 89,423 families with over £36 million of grants and services.
