Mencap works in partnership with people with a learning disability; their services support people to live life as they choose.
Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.
Mencap improve the lives of people with a learning disability and their families now, and fight alongside them for a better future. They team up with a network of over 400 local groups to reach people across England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
The work includes:
- Supporting people with a learning disability to get a job or take a college course, or help them find a place of their own to live in.
- Offering advice about things like respite care, individual budgets or transport service through helplines and websites
- Running residential/day care services and leisure groups that are so important to so many people with a learning disability, and their families and supporters.
- Support people with a learning disability to be part of their local communities.
- Lobbying the government to change laws so that more and more people with a learning disability can have control over their own lives.
