Children develop quickly in the early years, and
early years practitioners aim to do all they can to
help children have the best possible start in life. This resource provides guidance and material to support practitioners in implementing the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS).
It discusses four themes of the EYFS underpin all the guidance and shows how these themes, and the principles that inform them, work together for children in the EYFS.The themes are:
- A Unique Child
- Positive Relationships
- Enabling Environments
- Learning and Development
This "Development matters" resource can also help practitioners to support children’s learning and development, by closely matching what they provide to a child’s current needs. It looks at playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically to support children’s learning across all areas including physical development, literacy, writing, numeracy and understanding the world.
