Improving outcomes for children and young people: learning examples
During the SEND and AP Green Paper consultation period, CDC led a number of face-to-face workshops and virtual events with parents and carers, health, social care, education and the VCS to understand their views on the reforms.
Anecdotal feedback suggests that in some cases, there are already positive examples of practice taking place across the country to improve outcomes for children and young people but that these are not widely known.
In our role as Strategic Reform partner to the DfE, the Council for Disabled Children (CDC), put out a call for examples in relation to the following 5 themes:
- Example of good joint working between education, health and care
- Example of strong early intervention including good wraparound support from health and care for pupils on SEN support
- Example of effective management of the EHCP process, leading to high quality EHC plans and improved outcomes for children and families
- Example of effective preparation for adulthood including progression in HE/FE/employment
- Example of inclusive education
These are the first two learning examples in the series:
- Newcastle’s approach to effectively implementing the graduated response to SEN support in mainstream schools and settings
- Wakefield’s approach to effectively implementing a bespoke supported internship programme; one of their pathways to employment
