Ingredients of High Quality Participation

A checklist for how to include young people in decision making, developed by the VIPER group. These ingredients were developed in partnership with young disabled people from the VIPER project, and show ten important elements that we collectively believe make up high-quality participation for disabled young people.

This involved looking at existing participation standards and frameworks and understanding from the research and experience what good participation looks and feels like for young people.

VIPER was a partnership project carried out by the Alliance for Inclusive Education, the Council for Disabled Children, NCB Research Centre and the Children’s Society. The project was funded by the Big Lottery Research Programme.

Through the project, a group of disabled young people were trained as researchers and were involved in each stage of the project. VIPER stands for Voice, Inclusion, Participation, Empowerment, Research.
