The Special Educational Consortium (SEC) have developed a manifesto with three key priorities for political parties, parliamentarians and government to address the current challenges faced by disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs within the education system.
We know that too many of our children and their families are struggling to receive the support they need and deserve, that teachers and specialist professionals are stretched and early intervention is underfunded. This is resulting in an education system that is reactive rather than preventive.
The manifesto asks for accountability within the education system, a long-term funding strategy and support for the workforce, and ensuring disabled children and young people and those with SEN, and their families, are listened to.
Each priority emphasises the need for systemic changes, adequate funding, and meaningful involvement of children and young people and their families to create an inclusive education system that meets the diverse needs of all learners.
