The Department for Health & Social Care and the Department for Education have made a decision regarding children who were previously advised to shield that they no longer need to.
At the start of the pandemic, little was known about the threat posed by COVID-19 and Government made the decision to advise several million people, including many children and young people, to shield to protect themselves. They believed that was the right decision at the time and helped keep the most vulnerable safe while more was learned about COVID-19.
Recent clinical studies have shown that children and young people are at very low risk of serious illness if they catch the virus.
The results of recent clinical studies have been discussed by a panel of experts who have recommended that children and young people should no longer be considered clinically extremely vulnerable and therefore should not stay on the Shielded Patient List.
Please see below the letter all parents of CEV children and young people should receive this week along with a set of FAQs.
