TwoCan brings positive change to the arts industry, giving fresh opportunities to deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists, participants and audiences. Creative voices for everyone
The company is disabled led, with four of their five trustees being registered disabled and was set up with the purpose to evolve the existing story of those who are excluded from creative/theatrical experiences to ones that tells of inclusivity and accessibility. Centre stage possibilities for all.
The charity has a large education and community department that works through play and the arts to develop life skills essential to well-being and mental health. It also runs ‘2CA’ an academy for over 50 young people aged between 8-25 years living with a disability who are connected by their love of performance, providing opportunities for young people to be involved in one of the four youth theatre groups that meet weekly, creative development sessions (a five week rolling programme) where young people can work with industry professional developing techniques and understanding in creative forms such as writing, studio production, singing, ball room dancing and mindfulness to name just a few, holiday activities and artist in residency opportunities where young people work with leading professionals to develop live performance work.
The charity also works with those who have left formal education providing breakfast drama groups and a has created a new independence programme title ‘Journey 2 Independence’ using wider creative opportunities that encourages Effective communication, Health and wellbeing, Relationships and identity, Work and Recreation and Sensory Exploration.
TwoCan not only support young people to connect with the performing arts, it also actively encourages disabled artists to act as role models for our young people by working alongside them to develop their confidence and skill, raising their aspirations and a feeling that they too can become part of the freelance community in the future.
